This past weekend, St. Patrick’s Seminary & University hosted its annual discernment retreat for men. The purpose of the retreat is to help these young men understand the will of God in the current time and place in their lives. 35 men from the Archdiocese of SF and the Dioceses of Oakland, Stockton, Santa Rosa, Sacramento, and Reno had the opportunity to spend a quiet weekend on campus to contemplate a vocation to the priesthood. It was a big increase in attendance as opposed to last year's retreat.

This year's program distinctly focused on the retreat aspects with significant time for prayer and reflection. Confession and spiritual direction were also available to assist the young men in their discernment. Yet, there was still ample time for information collection.

Bishop Thomas A. Daly of the Diocese of Spokane gave several valuable conferences to the attendees. Also, the attendees were able to interact with St. Patrick's seminarians through panel presentations, small group activities, and various social events.

Overall, it was a positive experience for the entire community. A successful retreat often provides the final nudge needed by a discerner to act on their vocation. Now, we need the help of our entire St. Patrick's family. Please pray for these fine young men (and for an increase in priestly vocations).
